We Are Barnes!

Forgive me!!! I haven’t posted in more than 2 weeks, and I’ve honestly missed writing. Work has consumed more of my time and demands attention. BUT I’M BACK!! LOL, and I really want to talk about my weekend with my family. This post will be informal. Enjoy

So, July 4th just passed!! I know there is a lot of controversy concerning who should celebrate the holiday, but honestly, the fourth of July holds different memories for people.

  • When I think of July 4th, my mouth begins to water for the taste of a hotdog or hamburger made on the grill by a family member who wears old school sandals. Along with a side of baked beans, potato salad, corn on the cob, string beans, etc. (Man that just made me hungry!)
  • When I think of July 4th, I can hear loud screams of fun from my little cousins who love jumping into a pool of water, splashing, laughing, and having a good time under a pure blue sky, with the sun shining so bright it glistens off their skin.
  • When I think of July 4th, I think of my Nana because it’s her birth date. She’s a woman who is stern when it comes to business, but is extremely loving. Her nickname is Srgt. Annie Peet LOL!
  • When I think of July 4th, I think of family!

Yes, on July fourth, I celebrate the freedom to be with my loved ones. Every first weekend in July, my family, the BARNES (my mother’s side), gather together to have fun. We tell stories, eat, play games, eat, handle business, eat, talk and eat! LOL we are not obese, my family can cook well!

History: In 1955 ,my family established our annual reunions. Embrus Barnes and Bertha Barnes had 13 children, one being my nana (The little girl in the white short sleeve button down shirt and glasses in the featured photo). Those 13 children produced 3 more generations built on faith and family. We, Barnes, are very committed to our time together and cherish one another’s lives. We are growing, we are successful, and we are proud!

What’s my point?

Well, it’s important to spend time with the people you love. You never know what the future holds. Life is full of changes. Don’t get comfortable or too relaxed in doing the bare minimum. There’s 24 hours in a day and we are living in 2015…technology will not allow you to have communication problems. LOL. Call, send a text, email, find them on social media, or write a letter with pictures inside. Doing the little things to build communication, will build the relationship proving that you care about their involvement in your life.

And if you have problems with some of your loved ones, FIX IT! Like I said, in life, changes occur that people do not have control over. Live life free of unforgiving strongholds. Forgiveness doesn’t hurt. It’s best to have a clear conscious for your own wellbeing.

My brother Terrell and my cousin Charleen, President of the Barnes Club, shared a heart warming embrace after July 4th’s festivities. Goodbyes are the hardest.

Personally, I could do better showing love to my extended family. It’s hard to start a conversation with someone who you haven’t seen in 1+ year(s), but I’m learning to just talk about anything. Your family members are human beings, whether they are older or younger, there’s an infinite amount of topics to discuss. JUST TALK! Talk about accomplishments, life issues, school, work, current events, weather, favorite things, & more! I’m so glad I went out of my way to communicate this weekend.

To my family: I love yall so much! I hope we can continue to build our relationship. You all mean so much to me. I’m very excited for what the Barnes will bring in 2016.

P.S. Happy Birthday Aunt Sissie!!

P.S.S. Don’t forget. It’s Life, That’s it. ❤

Oh Man! I haven’t been to a Barnes Family Reunion since I was a kid (probably 15 years or more). I’m proudly representing the Barnes name over on the west coast! 🙂

    1. West Side!!! Lol it’s cool that we’re spread across the map! Hopefully when I move to the West Coast (in like 5 years lol) we can meet up!!
